Whole rye is the cleaned, intact rye kernel harvested from Western Canadian fields, where the crop's natural hardiness produces a grain with a deeply complex, slightly spicy flavour and outstanding nutritional density. Rye is notably rich in arabinoxylan dietary fibre and has one of the highest fibre contents of any cereal grain, contributing to a pronounced satiating effect valued highly in Scandinavian and artisan baking traditions. Basic Grain sources whole rye from established Prairie growers who maintain strict varietal segregation, delivering consistent flavour intensity and falling number performance that rye bread bakers and whiskey distillers rely upon. Each lot is tested for moisture, protein, and falling number prior to shipment.
